Dr. Ellene C. Smith was born March 29, 1932 in Eatonton, Georgia to the late Ann Mariah M. Flowers and grandparents of Mr. and Mrs. Manor and Mattie Maddox-Cannon. She was a resident of Jacksonville and attended local schools where she later met her late husband Sgt. Roy H. Smith, Sr. They were united in Holy Matrimony and from their union of marriage were born three children.

Dr. Ellene C. Smith was born March 29, 1932 in Eatonton, Georgia to the late Ann Mariah M. Flowers and grandparents of Mr. and Mrs. Manor and Mattie Maddox-Cannon. She was a resident of Jacksonville and attended local schools where she later met her late husband Sgt. Roy H. Smith, Sr. They were united in Holy Matrimony and from their union of marriage were born three children.

Dr. E.C. Smith was the founder of the Fresh Start Temple, Inc., formerly known as The Gates of Heaven Deliverance Temple, "WHERE LOVE LOVES TO BE LOVED". She pursued her Doctorate degree in Ministry at the Jacksonville Theological Seminary. She traveled extensively internationally and locally spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Dr. Smith was steadfast and faithful to her calling for over 50 years in ministry, and was a pioneer for Women's Ministry.

On September 7, 2017 the Lord Jesus in His infinite wisdom sent His angels to escort home Dr. E.C. Smith. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children Minister Roy H. Smith, Jr. (Bertha), Sheryl Y. McKever (Matthew, Jr.), Evangelist Janice L. Williams (John Williams, Co-Pastor); God-Daughter and Armourbearer Evangelist Zorica Williams; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. She also is survived by a host of nieces and nephews; Herman R. Griffin (Cheryl) from Colorado Springs, Colorado; Pastor Gary B. Griffin of the House of Worship Holiness Church; a host of cousins; many extended family relatives; and special friends Momma Rosetta Glover, Pastor Charlie M. Jones, classmate Bishop R.L. Jones of the Holy Tabernacle, and Sister Robbie Shortz of Macon, Georgia.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 22, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Tabernacle Church, 6416 Miriam Street, Jacksonville, Florida 32219. Committal services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Jacksonville National Cemetery. The family will received friends at Hardage-Giddens Edgewood Chapel, 729 Edgewood Avenue South, Jacksonville, Florida, 32205, on Thursday, September 21, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be designated to The Fresh Start Temple, Inc. or Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
